“Shake Loose”

MetroStage in Alexandria, Virginia, presents “Shake Loose,” a powerful musical, celebrating African American blues, moods and icons. “Quiet on the Set Magazine” interviews Metro Stage Theater Director, Carolyn Griffin, who talks about the origin of the theater and the world premiere performance during press night.

Thomas W. Jones II, the writer, director and choreographer teams up with local composers William Hubbard and William Knowles to showcase a plethora of original ballads from his prior musicals that ran at Metro Stage. Many are now being performed in this musical.

“Shake Loose” became so much more than a song cycle or a musical revue. It had become a musical journey told in the distinctive rhythmic language of book and lyrics writer Tom Jones and the exceptional musical composition of his partners William Hubbard and William Knowles. MetroStage is very proud of this long standing partnership and are pleased to be presenting the world premiere of “Shake Loose” says Carolyn Griffin, producing artistic director at MetroStage.

Roz White, Rayshun Lamarr, Anthony Manough, and Lori Williams make up the cast of this riveting and soulful musical. They are all very talented artists that have performed on stage and screen nationally and internationally. So, expect to hear and enjoy the emotion-grabbing sounds of Gospel, the Cool Sway of Jazz along with Be-bop, R&B, and Danceable Funk. This is two hours of hand clapping, finger snapping, toe tapping fun.
