Although cranberries don’t work as well as antibiotics, they are a viable alternative for antibiotic resistant patients.

Cranberries are also rich in vitamin E which supports of the immune system by slowing the spread of chronic diseases associated with free radicals. Furthermore, cranberries aid in fighting infections such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, and dental decay by preventing bacteria from binding to teeth.

Another essential property of cranberries is fiber. Fiber acts as an equalizer that can intervene and lower high blood pressure and reduce body weight. The reduction of body fat reduces the risk of diabetes, stroke, obesity, hypertension and coronary heart disease. Moderation and sensible consumption of commercial cranberry juice is advised if you have any conditions that could be negatively affected by over consumption.

Conversely, some negative side effects of over consumption of cranberry juice can cause diarrhea, tooth decay, elevated blood sugar levels, as well as kidney stones associated with urine oxalate. Plus, some commercial cranberry juice products contain high amounts of fructose corn syrup. To get the maximum benefits from cranberries, and to avoid added sugar and additives, seek out local whole food stores that carry 100% cranberry juice. Whole cranberry juice can be an acquired taste for some because of its’ tartness. Cranberry also comes in capsules, pills, and concentrated liquid abstract.  It is advisable to consult your primary healthcare provider if you have a medical condition that could be aggravated by cranberry consumption.
