Jason A Ellis “Renaissance Man”
Jason A. Ellis, the founder and current Executive Director of MC Inc., is bringing together his passion for the arts, youth leadership development, and technology. Having worked in the public sector in various professional capacities for over 16 years, and having been involved in the performing arts for twice that long, he sees MC, Inc. as the amalgamation of his profession and passion. A native of Kingston, Jamaica he holds a bachelor’s degree in International Relations and Political Science from the University of the West Indies. He also has a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Memphis, where he graduated summa cum laude. He is also a 2018 Alexandria Living Legend recipient for his work as a social commentary playwright and an Alexandria Chamber of Commerce 40-under-40 awardee.
Since moving to Alexandria, VA in 2009 he has established himself as a recognized playwright, having written, directed, choreographed, and produced several original musicals. He is also often seen on the stage and behind the scenes of various community theater companies in the DMV area. In 2010 he created, and still is managing, a leadership development program for low income youth in the city of Alexandria. This program has seen 100% of its participants graduate high school and over 80% of participants furthering their education at a tertiary institution or gaining meaningful employment. This leadership program served as the catalyst for the creation of MC Inc., now with the inclusion of performing arts and technology-based skills development.
From 2009 to 2018 he was employed with the Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority (ARHA) in the Resident and Community Services Department. His work with ARHA has provided him a tremendous platform to interface with a wide cross-section of youth in Alexandria and build strong partnerships with a host of community stakeholders, particularly those focused on serving youth. He is currently employed as the Head of School for YouthBuild DC Public Charter School, continuing his commitment to serving youth. He brings a wealth of skill sets to the organization including grant writing, program development, leadership, public speaking, special events planning, partnership development, and public relations. His professional associations include the Northern Virginia Urban League Young Professionals Network, and the Northern Virginia Black Chamber of Commerce, where he serves on the board.
