The TANK You Don’t Know
R&B singer/songwriter and actor Durrell Babbs, a.k.a. Tank, is taking the entertainment industry by storm.
In January 2016, he released his seventh studio album “Sex Love and Pain II.” As a part of his album’s promotion, he released music videos for “You Don’t Know,” featuring Wale, “Better for You” and “I Love Ya,” featuring Yo Gotti. (Fans can also expect the release of a music video for #BDAY, featuring Chris Brown, Siya, Sage The Gemini.)
He later toured the U.S. to perform hits from SLP2 along with top singles from his earlier albums, including “Please Don’t Go” and “Maybe I Deserve.”
During our exclusive interview with Tank, he shared what R&B means to him and how its style has changed since the hype of artists, like Babyface and R Kelly, who influenced him.
“I think R&B, just like any music, should be from the heart,” said the 40-year-old artist. “Everybody has a different truth. And as long as you’re being true and honest about it, you should be able to package it up in whatever style of music or BPM.”
Though Tank is widely known for his music, he has been acting professionally for 10 years. He recently played a leading role for TV One’s comedy series “Born Again Virgin.” Based on the success of the first season, the crew are expected to shoot more seasons.
In BET’s forthcoming “New Edition” miniseries, Tank plays as Jheryl Busby, the former president and chief executive officer of Motown Records. Other celebrities slated for the 3-part movie include Bryshere Y. Gray (“Empire”), Luke James, La La Anthony and Monica Calhoun (“The Players Club”).
In addition to his new role, Tank is working on a mixtape. The release date has not been disclosed.
