What’s New In Music

Posted June 3, 2015 by qotsm in Arts & Entertainment

Janet Jackson recently announced her re-emergence on the music scene. The pop icon is set to release new music for the first time since her 2008 CD “Discipline”. Fans have been eagerly awaiting new material for what seems like an eternity. Janet has been busy with her acting career and a new husband in recent years, but we are “so excited” that she’s back. She also announced a world tour for later this year. In a fifty second clip she shared on Twitter, she said “I promised you’d hear it from my lips, and now you will. This year, new music, new world tour, a new movement. I’ve been listening. Let’s keep the conversation going.” We can’t wait to see what she has up her sleeve. Tina Turner is releasing another album…well sort of. She is re-releasing her Grammy Award winning album “Private Dancer” in commemoration of its’ 30th anniversary. The album will feature re-mastered versions of all of its original material as well a second disc including b-sides, 12″ mixes, and non-album singles. Also included will be the Bryan Adams duet, “It’s Only Love” which wasn’t on the original album but was a chart topping hit on Bryan’s album the following year. “Private Dancer”, which was released in 1984, spawned the title hit as well as the classic singles “What’s Love Got To Do With It,” “Better Be Good To Me,” and her remake of Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together.” It’s set for re-release on June 29th, but can be pre ordered on Amazon now.

Jill Scott has a new single burning up the airwaves this summer. The song “Fool’s Gold” is an instant hit and it’s no wonder. Where hardcore fans are concerned, Jill can do little wrong. Her voice is as rich as ever dancing over a melody which tells the story of a woman reflecting on a relationship gone bad. Wishful thinking and a delusional heart are the cause of her pain. Singing; “I was living a dream, believing things that just ain’t true / Oh, I can’t believe I ever believed in you / You had me chasing fools gold / I was chasing fools gold. Don’t worry, Jill…we’ve all been there once or twice. Stay tuned for the release date of her new album, but if you need your fix of Jilly from Philly right now, she’s on tour this summer. She will be headlining at the 2015 Essence Music Festival in New Orleans in July. Check her tour schedule to see if she will be coming to a venue near you. www.missjillscott.com

Tamia has a new single on the charts titled “Sandwich and a Soda”, and it’s a smoker with an infectious rhythm and playful lyrics. Tamia is sounding and looking as good as ever. She had gone the independent route on her last album, but announced that she has signed with Def Jam for the release of her sixth album “Love Life”, which hits shelves on June 9th. She is currently on a promotional tour for her new project, which she is very excited about. She recently turned 40, and says she loves being a wife and mother.”I choose to be happy” says Tamia about being married to former NBA player Grant Hill with whom she has two children, ages 13 and 7. “Love Life” is a happy album about love and being in love” she says. “It’s not as deep and dark as some of my other albums.” We’re always glad to hear new music from Tamia.
